Coordinator's Message

The Duckman's guidelines for a Great Hunt are first are foremost Safety. No hunt is worthwhile if someone gets hurt. Follow gun safety rules. Follow Capable Partner's rules. Dress for the weather. Fraternity, is the opportunity to share outdoor activities with friends and family which is what Capable Partner's is about. Quality, is reflected through the organized and disciplined entry into the field, the use of equipment that is in good working order, and of course the exercise of ethics. And finally, Harvest.

Capable Partners Participates
in '98 Youth Waterfowl Hunt
youth waterfowl outing photoOn September 19, 1998 eleven year old Justin Bermel experienced the thrill of baggin his first duck, a hen mallard, just as it was about to land in the decoys. Justin was accompanied by his father doug Bermel, a physiclaly challenged member of Capable Partners. the Action was fast and furious as blue-winged teal, green-winged teal and wood ducks flew past his blind. Located on a point of land owned by the Minnesota Vally NWR on Rick Lake in Eden Prairie, two comfortable, accessible blinds are the result of a cooperative effort by the Refuge and Capable Partners

The Youth Waterfowl Hunt precedes the regular waterfowl season by two weeks and is intenmded to enable youths under the age of sixteen to recieve the undivided attention and assistance of experienced hunters without the distractions and competition normally experienced on a typical Minnesota dock opening weekend. The goal was marvelously achieved, as Justin developed his young "shooting eye" and proceeded to down passing teal and wood ducks to fill out his limit!

Generously donating their time to assist on this successful hunt (but not shooting) were twelve year old Jennifer Helmeke, Pat Liliberto and his black Labrador, Vinny, Dave Guzzi, a physically challenged member and his daughters, Karah (5), and Kaylen (4), with their yellow Labrador, Sadie, and myself and my black Labrador, Scooter. In spite of the 90 degrees temperature, high humidity and lake water that was too warm to cool down the dogs, a great time was had by all l l l especially Justin, judging from the huge smile on his face!
